Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector (NGDS) is currently seeking a Principal Technical Accounting Analyst or Senior Principal Technical Accounting Analyst to join our growing team of diverse professionals at our sector headquarters in McLean, Virginia. The selected candidate will become a part of our Sector Headquarters Technical Accounting team.
This position will report to the Manager of Technical Accounting and perform technical GAAP accounting, research, and other financial analysis as required. This high impact and high visibility role will work closely with the Sector’s division business management and Sector leadership team.
Position Responsibilities and duties include:
Provide on-call technical accounting guidance
Support contract Estimate at Completion (EAC) reviews.
Review revenue recognition checklists, conclude on treatment and provide guidance on application of ASC 606
Research and analyze application of accounting standards to complex business transactions
Draft accounting position papers and summarize technical accounting issues and application of accounting guidance to the company, including relevant alternatives and recommendations
Prepare presentations of accounting treatment with recommendations for sector finance leadership
Update sector accounting policies for new accounting pronouncements and other changes
Prepare and present sector accounting policy training on an as-needed basis
Perform miscellaneous financial analysis, as needed
Track key accounting items and communicate impact to sector leadership
Serve as ASC 842 Lease Accounting subject matter expert to review routine and non-routine lease transactions
This requisition may be filled at either a Principal Technical Accounting Analyst (Level 3) or a Sr Principal Technical Accounting Analyst (Level 4).
Basic Qualifications:
Principal Technical Accounting Analyst
Must have one of the following:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience
Master’s degree in accounting or related field with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience
CPA
Recent Big 4 or recognized public accounting firm audit experience
The ability to work on-site in McLean, Virginia
The ability to travel as needed (up to 10% of the time)
Sr Principal Technical Accounting Analyst
Must have one of the following:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field with a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience
Master’s degree in accounting or related field with a minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience
CPA
Recent Big 4 or recognized public accounting firm audit experience
The ability to work on-site in McLean, Virginia
The ability to travel as needed (up to 10% of the time)
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong GAAP accounting proficiency and research experience
Self-motivated, yet functions well in a team environment
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience with SAP and/or HFM
SEC reporting experience
Experience communicating with executives
Prior experience in the Aerospace & Defense industry
Strong project management skills
**CPA will be weighed as 1 additional year of experience**
**Directly relevant Public Accounting may account for an additional year of experience for each year of relevant experience**
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
