Northrop Grumman's Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Manager of Engineering 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals! The selected candidate will be assigned to the Restricted Programs Sustainment & Operations Operational Unit (OU) Engineering Homeroom as a dual-hatted, Low Observables Survivability Specialist (LOSS) and Functional Manager for a geographically dispersed team of LOSS professionals. This position is located at Edwards AFB, CA, with travel and deployments (up to 25%) as needed to fulfill mission requirements.
The selected candidate will have very strong leadership skills with the ability to be assertive while respectful and to collaborate skillfully across organizations and will thrive in a dynamic and demanding environment. This individual will be an extremely effective written and verbal communicator with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and individual contributors.
Essential Functions:
- Manage personnel by tailoring resources based on discipline requirements, program objectives, and company policy.
- Mentor, guide and foster employee development, oversee performance review process, establish employee training criteria and coordinate with IPT managers to ensure skilled talents and tools are provided to support program.
- Support and manage following activities: hiring and attrition, personnel management, resolution of personnel and performance issues, salary planning, employee rewards and recognition, skill-set training and employee engagement and inclusion initiatives.
- Assist program and maintenance managers in execution of Statements of Work (SOW).
- Identify skill gaps within the team and create a training roadmap to improve engineering excellence.
- Integrate into a high tempo operational environment.
- Combine LOSS knowledge with real world maintenance experience.
- Support program technical interchange meetings and program plans development relating to problem analysis, engineering dispositions and in-house technical support.
- Work any shift, weekends, overtime and holidays, if necessary, as well as travel on deployments to support program requirements.
Basic Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years of military aircraft maintenance, tactical military aircraft Field Support, Field Engineering experience; or Bachelor's Degree and minimum of 5 years related military aircraft maintenance, tactical military aircraft Field Support, Field Engineering experience; OR Master's Degree with 3 years experience, OR a PHD and 1 year experience.
- 3+ years experience managing or leading a technical team.
- 5+ years experience with low observable maintenance.
- 5+ years experience with low observable survivability.
- Experience briefing senior level leadership on staffing and program details.
- Experience with training maintainers and contractor/DoD technicians.
- Ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Top Secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.
- Must have and maintain a valid U.S. passport.
- Accept customer furnished quarters for a period up to 120 days away from primary work location and comply with mobility requirements.
- Meet medical requirements and vaccinations for worldwide travel.
- Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule that may include extended shifts, holidays, weekends and support on-call status when necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 8+ years of SAP experience
- 6+ years of leadership experience in engineering or related LO technical fields
- Master’s Degree and 5+ years of experience in military aircraft Field Support or Field Engineering
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
