Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is seeking a Principal/Sr. Principal Project Engineer to join our project/programs team. This position will be at our Propulsion Systems Division facility located in Promontory, UT with periodic assignments at our Bacchus (Magna), UT location.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Position will support the D5 Production, Deployed Systems Service, Propulsion Viability and Modernization contracts. These Programs ensure a capable manufacturing capability and conforming baseline product and design to support the D5 Trident Program throughout it’s intended operational life. The effort spans all major components (igniter, nozzles, loaded motors and rocket motor assembly). Prior knowledge of rocket motors is important to being successful in this work as well as the assertiveness to lead other personnel from support organizations. In this role the Project Engineer will interface with internal customers such as R&D Scientists, Operations, and VSET teams as well as frequent interactions with our external Customers, Lockheed Martin and Navy.
Engineering activity may include upgrades and modernization of the D5 design and processes. Work will include ownership and definition of requirements, working with Process Engineering, Operations, Tooling, Quality Engineering, and project engineering/designers, in addition to engineering analysts to improve and refresh the D5 production line and design. Should be able to work with 3D engineering models and application of same to manufacturing.
Finally, the Project Engineer will also have an opportunity to support the D5 Propulsion Viability Program. This program aims to introduce new longer-term technologies, such as an alternate casebond system, into the D5 production program in order to reduce risk, streamline operations, and/or increase the sustainability of the production program. In this role the Project Engineer will interface with internal execution teams and share results with external customers (Lockheed and Navy).
This position will provide the opportunity to support at Promontory, Clearfield, and Bacchus campuses. Furthermore, the Project Engineer will be technical interface for external customers, both local and off-site. The Project Engineer may take on responsibilities in one or any (potentially all) of the aforementioned opportunities but is based on candidate qualifications and fit. The Project Engineer is expected to find innovative solutions to the technical and logistical challenges posed by the unique requirements, constraints, and program scope. This is a dynamic role in which the ideal candidate will have demonstrated technical agility. This role will report to the Functional Manager.
Coordinate and communicate with all stake holders the relevant technical and program requirements.
Prepare specifications, drawings, and the associated change paperwork
Prepare test plans and test reports
Propose, evaluate, and implement innovative solutions to satisfy program technical, cost and schedule requirements and objectives.
Represent the technical community at milestone reviews (SDR, PDR, CDR, TIMs).
Support manufacture of hardware
Support development of new technologies for future implementation into production
Basic Qualifications:
This position can be filled at either a level 2 or level 3.
Basic Qualifications for a level 3:
Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Engineering, or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university and 5 years’, 3 Years with Masters or 1 Year with PhD
Basic Qualifications for a level 4:
Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Engineering, or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university and 8 years’, 6 Years with Masters or 4 Year with PhD
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in engineering or related field preferably in a government contractor environment.
Ability to obtain and/or maintain a DOD Secret clearance.
U.S. Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Technical excellence, collaboration/teamwork, and trustworthiness are required.
Ability to see the larger picture for the system as a whole.
Experience in ETM, MRB, configuration management, technical writing (test plans and reports), and change board presentations (Change summary as well as technical justification) helpful.
Participation in problem analysis boards helpful.
Demonstrated ability to timely function in a matrixed construct and to self-manage a dynamic demanding workload required.
Strong demonstrated written and oral communication skills are a must. Detailed scope/schedule/budget planning skills are preferred.
Technical and project management role, engineering development program support, as well as program/customer interaction experience.
Prior successful experience in Rocket Motor Assembly process is a plus.

Successful candidate must be able to pass a background check for the Federal Safe Explosives Act (SEA)

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80A. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
