Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems sector is looking for a Director 1 – Chief Engineer in our SDS Division. This position is located in Roy, UT. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
What you will get to do:
- Lead the Sentinel program’s Restructure technical activities reporting to the Sentinel Vice President, Chief Engineer
- Provide technical oversight and guidance to the Sentinel Restructure Integrator ensuring consistency with existing EMD execution.
- Dedicated Office of Chief Engineer (OCE) support to Sentinel Restructure strategy, including technical development, advisement, and trade study resolution as required.
- Support OCE meetings, including but not limited to: Technical Review Board (TRB), Weapons System Working Group (WSWG), and Risk & Opportunity Board.
- Horizontally focused on resolving high-level Systems challenges.
- Ensures integration of overall technical plan within the Integrated Master Schedule.
- Champion long term strategic technical objectives within Sentinel and at the sector level.
- Supports strategically valuable technical interchange meetings with Sentinel partners.
Additional responsibilities may include:
- Identify areas of opportunity to support upcoming challenges that are not currently being elevated.
- Support hardware and deliverable focused deep dives within Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).
- Identify opportunities for and support of engagement activities across all IPTs.
- Identify and mentor high potential technical leaders and OCE bench candidates.
- Consulting with all members of the Office of the Chief Engineer.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) with at least 10 years of progressive engineering experience
- Minimum of 5 years in a formal management position
- Successful experience in planning, risk management, and project performance addressing cost, schedule, and technical quality for large system development
- Active DoD Secret clearance, investigation must have been completed within last 5 years
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
- ICBM or complex aerospace systems development experience
- Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience
- Experience leading the performance of tasks on schedule, at cost and achieving all requirements as either project lead, integrated program team or cost account manager
- Demonstrated effectiveness in achieving results through managing people and understanding and management of internal processes and customer/supplier relationships.
- Prior experience interfacing with prime contractor site leads and USAF leadership personnel
- Strong understanding and broad application of complex engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities
- Experience in working closely with customers to ensure delivery of systems that meet warfighter needs
- Ability to collaborate and achieve consensus when dealing with groups from diverse organizations and backgrounds
- Demonstrated experience in making sound decisions in uncertain and difficult situations
- Strong sense of urgency and work ethic in ensuring engineering meets customer and program expectations in a timely and efficient manner
- Active DoD TS/SCI clearance
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
