Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems Sector has an opening for an Principal Engineer Software to join Global Surveillance Division supporting the team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in San Diego, CA.
Responsibilities will include:
- Design, develop, and maintain automated tests scripts and verify software functionality for level 1 and 2 Software requirements
- Collaborate with product owners, software development leads and quality assurance teams to verify and regression test software functions
- Ensure test coverage is comprehensive by identifying, creating, and executing tests for critical features and edge cases
- Perform functional, regression, and performance testing using automation test tools and frameworks/architecture
- Identify and troubleshoot defects within code, requirements, or testing scripts and track them to resolution in collaboration with SW test lead, development lead and/or product owners
- Analyze test results, generate reports, and provide feedback to the development team to improve software quality
- Develop and define test plan and strategy for the IFC (integrated flight capability) with impacts across multiple segments and CSCIs
- Work with development leads, product owners, and SW test lead to identify impacted requirements and needed updates to existing test procedures as well as, when needed, generation of new test procedures
- Perform test procedure updates both manual and automated
- Maintain SW Test metrics across all impacted CSCIs including but not limited to: requirement to test coverage, test passing rates, test execution breakdown
- Coordinate/monitor/oversee test development and execution across multiple CSCIs and test environments supporting level 2 test
- Author SW Test documentation artifacts; including but not limited to STP, STD, STR, TRR, PTR
- Monitor and maintain CICD testing pipelines in support of nightly integration testing
- Perform debugging of SW Testing scripts as well as SW Code under test
Essential Functions:
- Work in a fast-paced environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative team settings across all levels
- Participate in the full software development life cycle including requirements, design, implementation, qualification, and delivery of software products to our customers
- Support program statement of work by applying fundamentals of software engineering to all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle
- Collaborate directly with software development and other engineering discipline teams to develop, write, document, and execute software requirement verification and integration, tests, including identifying and tracking issues through resolution
- Support software integration with hardware components in systems integration labs and other integrated test environments
- Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle activities and the Agile process for critical mission system software products
- Work on an Agile scrum team to execute and automate infrastructure maintenance and user services
- Utilize software development skills to design, code, and implement tests: unit, integration, regression
- Perform detailed design, code, and testing of those requirements at the domain level as well as support of system and operational testing
- Analyze software and system requirements allocated to computer software configuration items (CSCI)
- Support tool development to support streamlining of current processes and development of continuous test integration environment
- Ensure that thorough, clear, and complete documentation is created and maintained to support current and future integration activities
- Submit detailed problem reports for any anomalies identified during testing
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 5 years of related engineering experience or 3 years with a Masters, or 0 years with a PhD
- Minimum of 2 years experience with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Proficient with at least one of the following programming or scripting languages: Python, C/C++, or C#
- Minimum of 1 year experience in Agile Software methodologies – Scrum or Kanban
- Proficient with Atlassian tools such as Jira, Git, Subversion, Confluence, etc.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of python language constructs as well as familiarity with commonly used modules
- Experience with Microsoft Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems
- Familiarity with Agile software development, embedded system programming, software integration and testing
- Experience with Object-Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD) and Object-oriented Programming (OOP)
- Experience with at least one of the following automated test frameworks: Cucumber, Google Test, TestComplete, AQT, Atlas, EggPlant, Unit Test Factory, RTC, ATF, Python
- Understands high level difference between embedded and application software.
- Able to perform Object Oriented Design (OOAD)
- Basic understanding of hardware interface concept
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
- Proficient with at least one of the following languages C, C++, Python
- Familiarity with communication protocols (MIL-STD-1553)
- Experience with software development in real-time embedded systems for military applications
- Experience in using integrated development environment tools (e.g., Rhapsody) and real-time operating systems (e.g., Integrity)
- Experience with writing and using scripting languages to support hardware/software integration, debugging, and maintenance Demonstrated understanding of application and embedded software integration procedures
- Demonstrated experience with software test automation at multiple requirement levels
- Active Secret DoD Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance
Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
