Northrop Grumman’s SSSD is seeking a Testbeds Systems Engineer/Principal Systems Engineer to integrate and test embedded hardware and software systems in a development environment for a restricted program. This role offers a system-level perspective of satellite integration with hands-on experience integrating hardware and simulators with operational flight and ground software. The position also offers exposure to flight operations, spacecraft subsystems, and payloads with support from technical experts. This position requires some software exposure through maintenance and reworking of legacy code. The role involves significant coordination with the team for OS upgrades and requires strong leadership skills for effective testbed integration and maintenance efforts.
*This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA and can be filled at either level 2 Systems Engineer or level 3 Principal Systems Engineer. Additionally, this position is contingent upon acquiring and maintaining associated customer and/or business funding as well as the candidate obtaining final clearances and program access(es) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to maintenance of the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
-System engineering and test planning for HW/SW compatibility testing.
-Software integration and troubleshooting, including obsolescence evaluation and mitigation.
-Hands-on hardware design, integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
-Software coding, debugging, and reworking legacy code for O&M bug fixes.
-Integration of testbed hardware and software.
-Testbed maintenance, including OS upgrades, property/asset management, and overall coordination with the team.
-Strong leadership skills to lead all aspects of the testbed integration and maintenance effort.
Basic Qualifications for Systems Engineer (Level 2):
-Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 2+ years of engineering experience OR
-Master's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline
-Familiarity with hardware and/or software design and development, including VxWorks, C, C++, Python, MATLAB, and Simulink.
-Ability to understand and decompose requirements into test plans to buy off requirements.
-Ability to understand design documentation, drawings, schematics, integration procedures, test procedures, and test scripts.
-Candidate must have (and be able to maintain) an active, within scope, or current U.S. Government DOD Top Secret security clearance at time of application and prior to start date OR
-Candidate must have active SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within the last 5 years at time of application and prior to start date
Basic Qualifications for Principal Systems Engineer (Level 3):
-Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 5+ years of engineering experience OR
-Master's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 3+ years of engineering experience OR
-PhD in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 1+ year(s) of engineering experience
-Familiarity with hardware and/or software design and development, including VxWorks, C, C++, Python, MATLAB, and Simulink.
-Ability to understand and decompose requirements into test plans to buy off requirements.
-Ability to understand design documentation, drawings, schematics, integration procedures, test procedures, and test scripts.
-Candidate must have (and be able to maintain) an active, within scope, or current U.S. Government DOD Top Secret security clearance at time of application and prior to start date OR

Preferred Qualifications:
-Strong communication skills, including the willingness and comfortability to present in front of large groups
-Knowledge of Testbeds processes
-Knowledge of Systems Engineering processes
-Ability to proficiently use tools such as: MS Project, Power Point, Excel, Visio, JIRA, and DOORS
