Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal / Sr. Principal Test Director in the Core VMS Lab to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Test and Evaluation Organization. This role is located in San Diego, CA.
The Principal / Sr. Principal Test Director oversees the operational aspects of engineering tests, and is responsible for managing the design, development, and implementation of new lab capabilities, in addition to the planning, operations and maintenance of the Core VMS Lab. The position requires technical knowledge of various systems, design, development, implementation, and testing with a strong foundation in laboratory integration and test. The selected candidate must act with speed, guide others in producing quality work, be self-motivated, and have the ability to communicate complex technical issues and solutions. A successful track record of program performance, and test experience is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Driving process rigor, ensure compliance to meet company, program, and security requirements
- Driving technical and process rigor for lab configuration
- Tracking leading indicator technical metrics to detect and prevent issues
- Ensure lab assets meet test requirements for formal testing
- Continually coordinate lab status and issues and solutions across multiple IPTs
- Continually seek to improve lab integration & test engineering rigor and efficiency
- Ensure CRs are properly reviewed for Lab cost & schedule impacts
- Support proposal activities

Basic Qualifications for Principal:
Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related professional / military experience, or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related professional / military experience
Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal:
Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 9 years of related professional / military experience, or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 7 years of related professional / military experience
Basic Qualifications for both level 3 and 4:
- Must have experience in lab integration and test activities
- Must have an active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance
- Must have ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR)
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
- Must be flexible, and able to support weekends, multiple shifts, and off hours as dictated by program test activities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active Top Secret clearance
- UAS Lab specific System Test experience
- MES experience, and management / disposition of customer materials for test
- Previous experience working directly with customers and suppliers
- Proven leadership skills
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
