Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a critical component of the Missile Defense System. It enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to plan ballistic missile defense operations, observe battle developments, and manage networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability, optimizing responses to threats across all phases of flight. It is integral to all system ground and flight tests, verifying and exercising current and future missile defense capabilities.
As one of five team leaders within the Systems Engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our systems. This position will support the TO01 SE Task Instruction and Inc10 and beyond systems engineering needs on MBSE and general systems engineering. You will be the first line of leadership for all MBSE team members and report directly to the SE Engineering Manager.
Essential Functions:
As a Staff Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in managing an on-site team providing engineering support, CO. Your responsibilities are pivotal to our mission and include:
- Foundational System Engineering experience, including roles in use case development, requirements solicitation, derivation, and decomposition
- Ability to analyze high-level needs using use cases/scenarios and relate them to requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical approaches and findings clearly
- Lead the MBSE team, reporting to the SE Engineering Manager and maintaining accurate metrics of team progress
- Support team staffing responsibilities, including interviewing candidates, addressing performance issues, and supporting team member growth and development
- Provide technical oversight and ensure the quality of team products
- Lead iteration planning, implement customer-requested capabilities, and support the development and review of interface documents, system requirements, and engineering reviews
- Support junior systems engineering team members in enhancing their skills
- Be flexible to support various tasks on short notice, working under the direction of technical leads and product owners
Salary Range in Colorado Springs: $155,400 - $233,200
Salary Range in Huntsville: $163,200 - $244,800
Basic Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields) from an accredited university and 12 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline or related field and 10 years of experience, or a PhD with a minimum of 8 years of related work experience
- Applicants must have a current active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs
- Experience with complex command and control systems, mission analysis, performance analysis, requirements solicitation, decomposition, and management
- Expertise in developing models to drive solutions in complex systems, with specific knowledge in DoDAF and SysML methodologies (e.g., OOSEM or SysMOD)
- Proficiency in Object Oriented Analysis to decompose systems into executable SysML models, creating logical and physical models depicting static and dynamic system behaviors
- Understand layered Architecture concepts and their application to modeling system behaviors, including element interactions, interfaces, states, and viewpoints/views
- Extensive experience transitioning projects into Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
- Experience with tools like:
- Cameo (or Magic Draw)
- Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements (DOORs)
- Deep understanding of requirements solicitation, derivation, and decomposition to subsystems and components
- Understand Data Quality in MBSE model sustainment
- Ability to work as part of an integrated team developing and maintaining baselines for the BMDS Command & Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) System
- Adhere to DOORS processes and procedures
- Review technical product content and details
- Act as a technical interface to MDA counterparts as required
- Be actively involved in Agile development efforts, including iteration planning and status
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Cybersecurity, Risk Management, and Network design is highly desired
- Experience with MBSE tools like SparxEA or Rhapsody is a plus
- Experience with Agile Methods, Epic and Feature definition, and knowledge of cybersecurity concepts and security accreditation processes are highly desirable
