Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr Principal Systems Engineer – X-Lab Sr Systems Engineer o join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO, and is not a remote work position.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives.
C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier that globally and regionally networks integrate, synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications Experimentation Laboratory (C2BMC X-Lab) is a very fast paced and dynamic environment. The X-Lab is responsible for developing and integrating future-capability prototypes for the Missile Defense System (MDS) including Sensor/Weapon Integration, Algorithm Development, User Interface Development and other critical leading-edge missile defense technologies.
The X-Lab has a need to augment the team with a senior systems engineer to lead our Analysis Team. The candidate will perform both as an individual contributor and as a Team Lead for advanced concepts development projects. This includes directing the activities of junior level engineers. The candidate will contribute to full lifecycle development of advanced concepts.

- Work assignments are often self-initiated and coordinated with X-Lab leadership
- Provide oversight of maintenance and improvements to the analysis tool suite, and maintain team analysis standards and metrics
- Support advanced concept demonstrations during live and simulated MDA test events
- Focus on and lead the analysis of R&D systems in C2BMC and will contribute to other ongoing X-Lab projects as needed
- Assess how the C2BMC prototype system performs by identifying high level objectives and refining into an integrated set of metrics, analysis tool development, assessment of experimental data, generating and presenting customer-quality products containing analytical observations
- Apply these results to identify and work to enhance C2BMC for future operations
- Must be comfortable with rapidly changing requirements, design challenges that require novel solutions, fast-paced activities, and tight deadlines
