The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Serve as a Ground & Ops IPT lead, leading a diverse team of several engineering disciplines.
- Act as the Control Account Manager (CAM) by providing inputs to the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), providing monthly task progress reports based on Quantifiable Backup Data (QBD) and generating Variance reports and recovery plans.
- Understand and commit to ensuring smooth operations within the operations center, enabling the Ops Team to support the space segment’s intended function.
- Ensure that the delivered ground system is designed with a strong focus on operational needs, including orbit analysis, mission planning, trending/analysis, and state of health monitoring.
- Support systems development activities such as requirements management, architecture development, integration, testing, and formal program milestones.
- Lead a development team that:
- Reviews the existing ground software baseline and derive additional mission-specific software requirements.
- Works with systems engineers to develop operational documentation for use during launch, on-orbit checkout, and satellite commissioning.
- Conduct testing using simulators and resolve discrepancies.
- Develop and test command procedures, telemetry pages, and other products derived from vendor-provided documentation.
- Develop test procedures and test execution for system-level, end-to-end tests with the spacecraft.
- Implements constraints and limitations.
- Monitor vehicle state of health across all subsystems.
- Perform short and long-term telemetry trending.
- Track space vehicle configuration, including hardware, software, and configurable item parameters.
- Modify existing operations procedures to incorporate lessons learned from in-flight performance and develop new procedures as required.
- Support mission readiness activities, including mission rehearsals, mission timeline development, and post-launch test development.
- Support launch operations for instrument and spacecraft Launch, Early Orbit, and Activation (LEO&A) activities.
- Support anomaly resolution efforts.
- Provide status reporting through both functional and program reporting branches.
- Maintain standards for the established Integrated/Developmental Operations functional group processes.
- Support internal and external customer meetings through proficient verbal and documented (MS PowerPoint, MS Word, MS Excel) communications.
- Some shift work required (10% or more of the time).
- Some travel required (10% or more of the time).
Basic Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related STEM discipline
- 12 years of related experience with BS; 10 years with MS; 8 years with PhD.
- U.S. citizen.
- Active or Current Top Secret / SCI security clearance required at time of application.
- Extensive experience working across multiple departments, specifically with software factories and DevSecOps.
- Ability to define technical and operational needs to enable external teams to deliver solutions effectively.
- Strong mission integration and onboarding experience, ensuring a smooth transition of systems and components into operational environments.
- Experience with lights-out operations or spacecraft/ground system automation.
- Systems engineering experience or significant coursework in system engineering or system design.
- Prior experience conducting on-orbit mission operations or resolving satellite/ground system anomalies.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including presenting persuasively to external customers at milestone reviews.
- Strong technical communication skills, demonstrating an ability to convey complex engineering concepts to technical and non-technical audiences while maintaining an easy-to-work-with approach.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience writing technical documents for internal or external customers.
- Ability to work within a team of diverse individuals to achieve mission success.
- Support experience with readiness activities such as Mission Readiness Tests (MRTs), Mission Rehearsals (MRs), Day In The Life (DITL) simulations, and daily operations testing.
- Experience with spacecraft launch campaigns.
- Familiarity with virtualized LINUX-based ground control software deployment onto a ground system infrastructure.
- Experience with command and control software.
- Knowledge of training and certification programs for space system operators.
- Experience working within government systems and processes.
- Have experience working directly with Infrastructure and Software leads to align operational requirements with system capabilities
- Fleet management experience or at least experience in a multi-vehicle ops environment?
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
