Northrop Grumman Space Systems is searching for a Manager Aeronautical Engineering 1 in our Mechanical Engineering Loads and Dynamics team within the Launch Vehicles Business Unit at our Chandler, AZ facility.
This position is to lead a mechanical team for Loads and Dynamics.
The Loads and Dynamics Manager will be responsible for managing technical, schedule, cost, and Mechanical Engineering resources. The manager will identify and address program risks to ensure launch success. They will facilitate technical solutions based on heritage, and similar vehicles. They will track the program schedule and perform CAM duties. The manager will utilize thorough knowledge of launch vehicle mechanical design and integration activities, as well as strong leadership skills. The manager is expected to lead by example, ensure proper cross-training of the team, and make sure the team understands the requirements of the Program and how they relate to the individual tasks that are being assigned to the team. This also includes having periodic meetings with the team to review the ME performance relative to the Program schedule.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of engineering analysts, providing support and guidance balancing multiple customers\programs needs and deadlines
- Work with other engineering groups to ensure proper development and application of dynamic structural loads
- Provide technical loads & dynamics leadership inside and outside the group
- With little to no guidance, performs analysis, design, or test of one or more complex materials, structural components or functional systems.
- Conduct trade studies and evaluate alternative designs
- Based on broadly defined problems, studies basic design concepts and criteria for complex materials, components, or functional systems and applies the engineering principles involved to develop new designs
- Anticipates customer needs and finds innovative ways to provide for those needs
- Originates and develops constructive ideas
- Consistently looks for ways to modify or change existing methods or processes to improve outcomes
- Perform highly complex engineering design, development, analysis, and test activities to support assigned projects
- Determine engineering tasks required for project planning and execution; Analyze project requirements and develop detailed planning, conceptual designs, and risk analysis
- Interact with internal and external customers to assist in defining system requirements, and in the generation of specifications for products or sub systems
- Provide technical guidance and direction to engineering team in the design, test, production, and maintenance phases of a project
- Develop and present materials for project related briefings including design reviews to be given to internal and external customers
- Support new business and prepare proposal material
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) with 5 years of related engineering experience, or a Masters in STEM with 3 years related engineering experience, or a PhD in STEM with 0 years related engineering experience
- Minimum 3 years experience performing structural dynamics analysis
- Active DoD Secret Security Clearance, or higher
- Ability to travel 25%
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with modal testing
- Experience processing post flight data for verification/validation of dynamic analysis
- Experience generating finite element models for use in structural dynamics analysis
- Experience leading loads & dynamics analysis efforts on a program
- Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree
- Active DoD Top Secret Security Clearance
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
